MAINTENANCE Q & A

How do I find a good mechanic?
Talk to friends and relatives and rely on referrals. Look for someone that you trust and that has a good reputation within the industry. When going in for repair make sure the mechanic has a willingness to physically show you what's wrong with the car.

What types of questions should I ask a mechanic I'm considering using?
Ask the labor rate, i.e. How much do they charge per hour. The national average is between $65 and $90 for repair and maintenance. This includes dealerships. Have a conversation with the mechanic to determine friendliness and honesty. You can make some simple assumptions of how a person will care for your car and service it based on a simple conversation.

What should I know before visiting a repair shop?
Simple things like the year, make and model of your car are helpful. Also, the engine size, service history and where the car was last serviced can be useful.

What are the biggest maintenance safety issues?
Tires and Brakes --- both are designed to wear out. Remember, your tires are what you're riding on and your brakes are what's stopping you!
