FREE VEHICLE HISTORY REPORTS

The first step in buying a used car is to get a history on the car you're preparing to buy. If you're buying from an individual, relying solely on their word may not be a good option for two reasons: 1. They may not truly know the history of the car and 2. They may not be willing to share what they know with you. That's because they're trying to sell the car and they don't want something that might interfere with that --- accidents the car has been in for instance --- getting in the way of the sell. You understand. To get a vehicle history report, you'll need a VIN number, that's the 17 digit number that can be found on the upper corner of the dashboard on the drivers side of your vehicle. If you are unable to find it there, take a look inside the door on the driver's side. This number is your cars identification, much like your social security number is yours. Each number represents something and when you use this number you can find out a good bit of information on a car, like the make, model and year, in addition to accidents, and other maintenance and repair information. There are a number of services that offer these vehicle reports, such as AutoCheck®. For a small fee, somewhere in the range of $20 to $30 you can get a full report on the car in which you have an interest. If you are looking at numerous calls it might benefit you go get unlimited vehicle reports versus a single report. If you're going to the dealership to purchase your used car, ask the dealership to provide you with a vehicle history report. This should be provided at no cost. Vehicle reports provide the following information:

Look carefully at all aspects of the report and particularly at the Accident Report, Lemon Check, and Mileage Accuracy.
